A newsletter dedicated to computer and video games that keeps expanding its readership comes back next month with a new issue. Now, after waiting a few days for FreeMediaKids! to upload another number to the Archive, he introduces to you the beginning of the third volume of Computer Entertainer. In this volume's premier issue, the newsletter's title now reads Computer Entertainer with the header reversed to be written "Computer Entertainer includes The Video Game Update". However, as I have been up to this point, I will continue to add both titles as subject tags for accessibility purposes.
Apple Inc. continues work on the "Elf", officially the Apple IIc, which has a release date of April 24 and an expected price of $1000–$1300. There seems to be another Apple computer in development, the "Lolly". In what is seen to cut further costs, Atari quietly shuts down its Atari Program Exchange, which allowed people to submit their software with the possibility of getting them published. Broderbund will release an application for Apple II called The Print Shop next month, where users can design and print anything from greetings cards and stationery to letterhead and banners. It is menu-driven, but it also comes with a graphics editor. Sierra On-Line is releasing a slate of titles for PCjr, including Oil's Well, Jawbreaker, Wizard and the Princess, and Crossfire, along with Frogger shortly after. First Star Software announces an agreement with Exidy, where the latter will manufacture arcade conversions of Boulder Dash, Flip & Flop, Astro Chase, and Bristles, all of which have been successful in home formats. The scant library of software for Coleco Adam is receiving several games. Datamost plans to showcase a finished version of Mr. Robot and His Robot Factory at 1984's Summer CES. Broderbund has licensed Coleco to produce Lode Runner. Infocom's pack of games for the computer include the Zork trilogy, Deadline, The Witness, Planetfall, Infidel, Suspended, and Enchanter. Lastly, Sierra On-Line is planning Frogger and four other titles for Adam, probably for a June or July release. With its low compatibility with IBM PC compatible computers, software developers are taking a close look at PCjr's sales performance as some units are left on store shelves, which seems to generate sales for Apple's IIe.
In the console world, the Atari 5200 is left deprived of new software releases, seeing only Pengo and Robotron within the past couple of months and very few companies porting their games to it. The same companies continue to soundly support the ColecoVision, which has just seen three more games arrive at the console: Destructor, War Games, and BurgerTime. Parker Brothers has obtained a license to develop Universal's Mr. Do's Castle for Atari 2600, 5200, ColecoVision, Atari computers, and Commodore 64, scheduled for the second half of 1984. Universal is also releasing the sequel, Mr. Do's Wild Ride, in the arcades. Donkey Kong Jr. for ColecoVision ships, and Coleco abandons plans for additional Intellivision titles. It also has canceled its "ColecoVision Experience" magazine and promises to launch a new one geared strictly toward Adam.
Scan taken from segaretro.org as always, and, once again, the scan is not so good, with the cropping demon striking back. I wish there were more scans online.
